I use Photoshop CS made by Adobe for my artwork (and Paint Shop Pro 7 by Jasc for some of my really old stuff). I create my websites "by hand" as many would call it. This means that instead of using a what-you-see-is-what-you-get (WYSIWYG) editor that creates the source code for you, I create it myself. If you want to see what I type out, the backbone of the website, in your browser choose "View" from the menu, and then select "Source". I use PHP Designer 2005 to view and edit the source, working with HTML/XHTML, CSS PHP, and MySQL. and I am currently undergoing trying to learn mySQL.
I started creating websites when I was in the fifth grade (as of now I am a senior at high school and will be graduating in June 2008). I have created quite a few websites - some informal, some personal, and some built for others. Currently I am focusing more of my efforts towards school and other things unrelated to web design such as photography, my portfolio which can be viewed here.
If you would like to learn more about HTML I suggest you go to the W3 Schools website. They have a vast array of information on many of the web programming languages as well as handy "try it yourself" interactive examples. Once you learn the HTML there, I suggest you use the same site to learn XHTML.
Once you have a solid understanding of XHTML, continue to CSS at W3 Schools once again. From there, it is up to you. You can decide to use the most popular open-source scripting language for the web, PHP, or go in a different, more visually creative direction and learn how to use Adobe Flash to incorporate an interactive website with an array of useful media into your websites. Or perhaps you will want to learn how to use Adobe Photoshop CS to enhance your website's visual appeal and get a better feel for image manipulation. Where you would want to go from there would be up to you.
